Issue #4: In memoriam: Dame Fanny Waterman

There is a big gap without her, but certainly somebody that world will never forget” - Linda Wellings, Operations Director

After teaching piano during World War II, Dame Fanny Waterman, as she was to become in 2005, was determined to make her hometown a dynamic center for culture and piano excellence. She founded the competition in 1961 with Marion, Countess of Harewood, and Roslyn Lyons. More than the founder of the now-famous piano competition, she was also an influential and meticulous pedagogue. The Leeds International Piano Competition and medici.tv honour her legacy and memory with Linda Wellings, a close friend of Fanny Waterman and now Operations Director at the competition.

Eric Lu, the 2018 winner, will be giving a memorial performance in memory of Dame Waterman on September 16. Follow us at leedspiano.medici.tv for more notes and behind-the-scenes!
